Project

The EPR reactor model (European Pressurised Reactor) is a third-generation nuclear reactor with a power capacity of 1,650MW.

The aim behind the construction of the EPR in Flamanville is to strengthen EDF’s nuclear competences. EDF plans to implement more than 6,000MW of electricity production additional capacities before 2012.

The requirements in terms of safety have driven EDF to provide this EPR with:

  • A double concrete wall with a steel liner to ensure the sealing of the reactor building
  • A tank for melted fuel, installed under the reactor, in case of major accident
  • An “airplane shell” over the nuclear buildings to protect the plant against an airplane crash

Services

Setec tpi produces on behalf of the contractor the bending bar construction design drawings for the entire nuclear plant. Setec tpi uses the guideline drawings provided by EDF, adapting them to the contractor’s construction methods and programme requirements.

These plans have been produced using the Eurocodes as well as EDF’s specific requirements.

The quantity, their relevance and the complexity of the works comprised in the Flamanville’s EPR have driven setec tpi to mobilise up to 200 FTEs at some point of the project, divided in five international teams (Belgium, France, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia). These teams, during the 4 years of duration of this project, have produced the 7,000 construction drawings of the 20 buildings comprised in the Flamanville’s EPR.
