The Project

The Principality of Monaco decided that the execution of a complex maritime structure was required in order not only to protect the Condamine Port but also to develop new economical and leisure activities.

To this end, the extension of the port is undertaken by a semi-floating vertical breakwater and a classic earthworks breakwater, extending it towards the current Antoine 1st dock. The former is kept in place thanks to a wiring system while the second does so by a classic ball-joint support system.

The semi-floating vertical breakwater is executed in high-performing prestressed concrete and will include 4 parking levels as well as a maritime station and a lighthouse at its end.

A system of compartmentalisation and liquid/solid ballasts allows the structure to deviate +/- 0.5° and +/-2° vertically and horizontally. The breakwater is designed to resist seismic forces and wave heights up to 8m.

One of the particularities of this project is that it will be entirely executed in the port of the Spanish town of Algeciras, next to Gibraltar, and then transported to Monaco.
